Emmett Spring Cleanup!
City to Sponsor First Annual Spring Clean-up in May

If April showers bring spring flowers, what does May bring?  Perhaps a spring cleanup.  This year, Emmett Mayor Gordon Petrie is promoting a city-wide effort to encourage Emmett residents to ensure their yards get cleaned up and in shape for the June and July onslaught of visitors.

The City of Emmett, with help from Emmett VFW Post 4900, is holding its First Annual Spring Cleanup.  “Our neighborhoods reflect who we are,” commented Emmett Mayor Gordon Petrie.  “They reflect our ‘Gem of a life’ here in Emmett.”  The city is working with local businesses and civic organizations to create teams to help eligible residents in need of assistance to clean up yards and debris.

Marly Meyer, who brought the idea to the Mayor, suggested that during the Spring Clean, there be a contest for city residents who wish to participate in one of three categories:

1. Most improved yard where home owner provides digital photos with start date and end date;

2. Most environmentally friendly (the “high desert” yard) and;

3. Most artistic.  Competition ends May 31st, 2017.

To sign up for the competition, simply go to City Hall or the city’s website and sign up by May 12th.

The Team Cleanup Day is Saturday, June 3, 2017, which culminates the event. The VFW will hold a “Buckaroo style” breakfast in the park from 8 to 10 a.m.  Registered team members eat for free.

Emmett Sanitation is assisting with yard waste pickup and will have “roll outs” in the parking lot at the city park tennis courts for larger items on May 13th and May 20th, both Saturdays. For a list of the items the roll outs will take and rules for yard waste pick up, visit the city website at www.cityofemmett.org.

Interested business and civic groups who want to provide teams are encouraged to contact the mayor directly at 398-2030 or by email via the form below for registration to participate.
