Laura Ingalls Wilder Week Coming Soon!

Please join us February 6-11 as we celebrate the 150th birthday of one of America's most beloved authors, Laura Ingalls Wilder.

On Monday, February 6th at 5:30 p.m., we are proud to bring you Dr. Janet Worthington in the Women of History presentation, Laura Ingalls Wilder: Moving West. In her beloved series of Little House books for young people, Laura Ingalls Wilder portrayed pioneer life as a wondrous adventure, filled with warmth and love. As Laura, Dr. Worthington recounts the family’s continuing westward movement, and tells stories of that life from the Little House books. She also delves into the personal life of Laura Ingalls Wilder—how her core beliefs directed her life and how she dealt with her fame as a favorite children’s author. For over 30 years, Dr. Worthington has been presenting women and girls from history and literature. In period costume, she speaks as the noted woman and dramatically recounts her life experiences. She then answers questions both as the historic/literary figure and as herself.

Then, join us on what would have been Laura Ingalls Wilder’s 150th birthday - Tuesday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m. - to enjoy stories of Laura’s life as a young pioneer child in America’s heartland. After our stories, we will make real butter together to enjoy with some homemade bread.

Finally, on Saturday, February 11th from 1:00-3:00 p.m., we bring you Laura Ingalls Wilder's 150th Birthday Celebration. Whether you are a fan of the books, the television show, or are new to the world of Little House, we welcome you! Explore different aspects of life on the prairie, test your Little House trivia chops, peruse our collection of Little House books and DVDs, register for door prizes, and enjoy a piece of birthday cake to mark the occasion, made from one of Laura's own prized recipes.
